Hide NULL value in Quick Filter But not in data.

Hi All,

I'm having a difficulty to hide the NULL value in Quick Filter but not in the Data. By using Parameters we can achieve this, but unfortunately i need to show it as multi selection drop down. So there is no other go for me except Quick Filter.

Since, Data is confidential i cant post the data. But below is the dummy data.

So what i'm looking is, Country should be a quick filter with Multiple Values Drop down

Can we achieve this with Calculated field ? Or If any solution would be appreciated.

Custom SQL with Union All Need to Split

Hi All,

I wrote a complicated SQL with 6 combinations of data Union All's in teradata with Start & End date as Parameters. when i included this sql in Custom sql, it is taking almost 30 mins to load the dashboard.

And So, I'm looking for other options to switch from Custom SQL's. Each from clause has same tables but different join conditions.

My SQL looks like :

Select Col1,Col2,Col3,Col4,'A' As Col5, 'AA' AS Col6,Col7,Col8,Col8 from ( Select * from table1) fo

Union All

Select Col1,Col2,Col3,Col4,'B' As Col5, 'BB' AS Col6,Col7,Col8,Col8 from ( Select * from table1) fo1

Union All

Select Col1,Col2,Col3,Col4,'C' As Col5, 'CC' AS Col6,Col7,Col8,Col8 from ( Select * from table1) fo2

Union All

Select Col1,Col2,Col3,Col4,'D' As Col5, 'DD' AS Col6,Col7,Col8,Col8 from ( Select * from table1) fo3

Union All

Select Col1,Col2,Col3,Col4,'E' As Col5, 'EE' AS Col6,Col7,Col8,Col8 from ( Select * from table1) fo4

Report always run for the single combination, either on 'A','AA' or 'B','BB' or 'C','CC', etc.,

So, what i thought is Instead of executing the whole query with Union All.

Can we execute the required sql combination alone based on the Input selection ?

1) with Initial SQL or

2) Any Other option like Java Script API, where we will create a Java script code and plug that to Tableau. Ultimately which should perform the sql execution based on the Input and send the data to Tableau.

3) Or do we have any other options. please advice.

How to break down the count for creating Up/Down side bar??

Hi,

I created a stacked bar chart with count as measure. And converted that to upside and downside for temporary.

In total I have 12 quick filters with in the sheet based on the selection the count is changing which is good. But where I have 1 quick filter as CHANGE, which has total 3 values. Those are

1) up

2) down

3) na

Now I need to create a sheet with upside and downside stacked bar on the same but "down" CHANGE value should displayed in the bottom or downside. For that do I need to create a new caluculated fields for down count and other 2 values count?

But when I tried with if condition or Lod I'm getting errors.

Please advise me.

Refresh All Data Sources of a workbook at a time??

Hello All,

we had created a workbook with 4 Different data sources as a live connection and all are Custom Sql's. In that few has Begin & End date as Parameters. And the workbook is taking almost 50-60 minutes to load it. So decided to change it to extract Instead of Live connections.

I can only use Tableau refreshextract to refresh the extracts.

And my confusion is,

1) How to refresh the all the data-sources at a time ?

2) How can i keep the up-to date data in the extracts where it has start & end date parameters?

3) Will the Tableau refreshextract command accepts the encrypted password?

4) Scenario being this, which one will give the better performance of .twb or .twbx ?

Please help me with the above.

How to change Max Period Date to today ??

Hi Tableau Geeks,

I have date column which i am using for 2 purposes. In 1 sheet, I'm using as a date range filter where it will show Start & End Date. In another Sheet applied as a single value drop down on desc order.

Up to here i was successful and then comes the problem of whenever i open the dashboard it is not loading the Max value as default. But my client was adamant to display the same. So i tried with below cal and it is throwing error.

If MAX([Period_Date]) = Today() Then Today() else [Period_Date] END.

and i was clueless about this and looks like i was missing something here.

I want to write the calculation to handle this.

Please help me.

How to convert a dimension values to comma separated list in Tableau??

Hi All,

I need to convert a column values to comma separated list with Tableau caluculated fields and struggling to do this. I know we can achieve this with in the DB. But wanted to achieve this in Tableau to reduce the data sources.

Example :

Col1

O/p: A,B,C,D,E,G.

If I apply the quick filter, it should display the respective values from caluculated field.

How to Remove/Change Tableau Dashboard Data Sources??

Hi All,

I have created a workbook with 3 dashboards from 2 custom sql's. Now i need to take out 1 data Source without effecting the developed workbook or create an entirely new data source without using Custom SQL for all 3 dashboards.

Below is an example of my situation :

Data_Source_Name Workbook_Name

Custom_sql1 W1

Custom_sql2 W2

Custom_sql2 W3

Now i need try for below possible solutions, can you please let me know on how to achieve this.

1) Now i need to remove Custom_sql1 data source and move the workbook W1 data source to Custom_sql2, without effecting the workbook or adding the same data source again.

2) Lets remove both the data sources and create as new datasource (not a Custom SQL), with out effecting the workbooks.

Note : Can't produce the Sample workbook, sorry for that.

How to refresh Tableau Extracts Automatically by using Python or Shell

Hello Community,

Can you please help me with Tableau Extract Refresh without using tabcmd or Rest API. I can't really use of the both. So I need to write a custom logic to the job with Shell oroPython.

My idea is like , I will store all the report data source SQL's in a sequence order in a table.

And for each report I would like to fetch the SQL from table and execute it and will store the result in .tde file

After this I want to push the file from Unix server to tableau server. This is where I'm lacking.

Can you guys please help me with Tableau Commands which we can use.

How to change Measure label dynamically

Hi All,

I am using Tableau Desktop version 10. i have a requirement to change the Measure display Name in Text Tables with Some Customized like "Sales as of 04/20/2018". as of now i have sales measure and date field.

For example, if the date filed returns "04/25/2018" label needs to be changed to that accordingly.

Can you please suggest me on how to do this.
