Edit dimension column aliases

Hi All,

How do I add aliase to a dimension column value in Tableau 2018.2? I'm able to do for a measure column but not for dimension.

In Tableau 10.4, I used to have this option when I right click on a dimension value. Guess this has changed now.

Any help is much appreciated.

Calculate Total Cases & Current Open Cases

Hi All,

I have a requirement to create a tabular report with these columns - Case Type, Total Cases & Current Open Cases. (for last 12 months)

The case type is a direct column which has list of case types and for Total Cases - I used this calculation COUNTD(Case Number) which works fine.

For Current Open Cases - I used the below calculation. However, the aggregation is not working and the no's seem incorrect.

{ FIXED [Case Type] : COUNTD (IF [Status] = 'Open' then '[Case Number]' end) }

Can you please help?

Note: I tried using INCLUDE function as well instead of FIXED.

Add comments to Fields

Hi All,

Can we automate adding comments or descriptions to all the fields that is part of the data source while defining the metadata in Tableau? This way it would be easier for the end users to do self-service analysis.

I understand that there is an option to add comments manually to each field, but doing this for 1000+ fields is a time consuming and complex task. Is there a workaround to automate this process?

Tableau self service with column screen tips

Hi All,

I have a requirement to setup a self-service platform in Tableau with 100+ tables and 1000+ columns want to understand the available options to fulfill it. As it is very complex and tricky to create one data source with all this information, I guess we need to create multiple data sources per subject area and try to do data blending. Any suggestions would help here.

Also, I want to add comments or descriptions to all the table fields that is part of the data source while defining the metadata in Tableau. This way it would be easier for the end users to do self-service analysis. I understand that there is an option to add comments manually to each table field, but doing this for 1000+ fields is a time consuming and complex task.

Is there a way to store column comments information in Hadoop/Impala tables or any DB tables and pass this through to Tableau and link to the table columns?

Dynamically colour code Column values using Parameter

Hi All,

I have a requirement where in I have 6 columns in a tabular report and need to colour code the column values with one colour. This should be dynamic based on the parameter selection.

Let's say I have a parameter with values A, B, C, D. When I select A - Column 1 should be color coded with green and when I select B - Column 3 should be colour coded with red and vice versa.

Any thoughts on how to implement this?
