You can't do it with parameters, but you can do it with dimensions and filters. Do you really mean a Tableau Parameter ?
Yes, I was referring to Tableau parameters. I thought that was what I needed so that the dashboard could be blank until a selection was made and then have the selection apply to all worksheets. What is the best way to make this happen?
You can use dimensions and apply the filter to many worksheets at the same time ( or even every sheet that uses the data source) but it's very tricky to start with a blank dashboard.
Parameters are independent, so you can't change one because of selection changes in another.
If you were happy to have some data on dashboard to begin with, then dimensions would be the ideal approach. You're basically building a hierarchy that can be included in your data (best option) or in another data source that you join to (next best option)
I adjusted my workbook to use filters and set the filters to show only relevant values. However, if I clear the values in my filters, it is not showing me all of the relevant values, it just shows me the last one I had selected. Is there a way to reset the filters to show all relevant values again? When you talk about using a hierarchy, was that different than "relevant values"?
