You have mentioned that you have installed Oracle client too. Are you able to connect to the database through the client? Please check. If yes, and you are still not able to connect, see if restarting the system helps.
Thanks for replying.
Yes, thru Oracle SQL developer I was able to connect to the Database. Even thru command prompt I was able to ping my database.
I have restarted couple of times, but still issue remains the same.
By any chance, do you have multiple ORACLE HOME's in your system?
If yes, then you may need to updated your TNSNAMES.ora file in the home that's probably being referred by Tableau.
If you do not have multiple homes, then please check your PATH settings for the above file.
Hi Prasanna. Did you by chance upgrade from an earlier version of Tableau and have older Oracle drivers already installed? If so, try to uninstall all of them and then install the newest one.
Thanks for your reply, Jeff. This is the only version which I have installed as well as with oracle driver. I didn't had any other versions.
I see only one ORACLE HOME. And PATH setting was pointing to the same directory of tnsnames.ora but not the complete path. I have mentioned in below, should PATH setting also need to point same as path as tnsnames.ora? If so, I will try that as well.
PATH setting as: MyLOCALDIRECTORY\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\bin;
tnsnames.ora is in MyLOCALDIRECTORY\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\NETWORK\ADMIN
There may not necessarily be just 1 thing that you need to do which can probably resolve your connection issue. I may be guessing here but I think you may have installed Oracle SQL Developer after you have downloaded the Oracle drivers from Tableau. If so, you can try uninstalling Tableau completely from your machine first, reboot, and then install Tableau and the Oracle drivers and see if that works.
Thanks, Hari. But all of these didn't help to resolve the issue. Even I tried uninstalling Tableau and installed 2018.1 version. Still I had same issue. I thought of trying to setup System DSN for my Oracle DB and using this DSN as ODBC to connect from Tableau.
Any other thoughts to troubleshoot this issue?
Please look at my document to help: Tableau Oracle Connection*
Follow the steps to see if you have done the same thing and if you did something different then let us know.
You shouldn't have the need to be using a DSN because that means you would be using an ODBC connection. You would have a loss of some speed and functionality as a result of such a connection.
