Is there anyway that you could give Tableau a single database and let it connect the exact way in which the database's tables connect to each other? I am running into an issue where an ID from one table is the same as an ID from another table in normal circumstances. In the unusual circumstance where they are not the same one variable flips form a 3 to a 1 and this ID in the original table is now equal to an ID from a third table. I have not been able to find a way to join these tables correctly based on this 3/1 flag, so I was hoping there might be a way for Tableau to see how the database is originally connected. (However I assume this is asking vastly too much out of Tableau!)
Not in Tableau directly. Maybe in custom SQL? Maybe (big maybe) in Prep.
That is the kind of functionality that folks usually get from a dedicated ETL tool.
