Difficulties loading Spatial Data into Tableau 10.4.1 from ESRI shape file

    Hilary Hastings

We have recently upgraded to Tableau Server and Desktop 10.4

We are attempting to use some Scottish Government Datazone Spatial Data files sourced from
      https://data.gov.uk/dataset/ab9f1f20-3b7f-4efa-9bd2-239acf63b540/data-zone-boundaries-2011

      in Tableau mapping.

I have trawled the Tableau Forum, Mr Google and indeed searched on here and do not seem to be able to find any solutions.

WHAT WE ARE TRYING TO DO:

Use the Spatial Data to create a map in a report.

      THE PROBLEM:

The Workbook appears to connect to the Data Source (Connect/Spatial File) but doesn't show any data (can see column names but not actual data) only displays the error:

(We can see the columns )

      WHAT WE HAVE TRIED:

      1. Verify the requisite ESRI files are in the source folder (.shp, .shx, .dbf).
      2. Check Windows version is not the issue (we have a mix of Windows 7, 8 and 10).
      3. Check drive mapping is not the issue i.e. use full absolute path and not relative mapping.
      4. Check the issue is not just to do with User Privileges in Tableau. Tried connecting to the Data Source via absolute path from both a Tableau Developer and Tableau Admin user.
      5. Check the issue is not to do with User Privileges in Windows. Tried connecting to the Data Source via absolute path from Windows Admin account.
      6. Ensure the file itself can be read by all users (via the actual file security permissions in Windows).
