# Understanding Forecasting

• What is a running sum of Forecast amount mean?
• What is the data telling me?
• Can someone help me understand what the below formula means?
• How can I replicate this formula in Excel?
• After replicating the formula it does not seem to be matching the Tableau charts with the same formula

• I have been trying to replicate the below formula in Excel by
• Adding Probability of all opportunity line items Excel data export in each month over years: 2016, 2017 & 2018
• Dividing by the # of lines of the line items of opportunities
• This formula gave me an average percentage of the probability of the items for each month
• Then, I felt the forecast amount formula would be (Screenshot below):
• Forecast Amount:
• % symbol in formula = result of average percent in
• (C2)  Sum of Active opps /100 * %
• (D2)  Sum of Mandates / 100 * %
• (F2)   Add in Sum of wins

If [Stage] =  "03 - Pipeline" Then ([Total Bid Value]/100)*[Probability (%)]

ElseIf [Stage] = "04 - Mandate" Then ([Total Bid Value]/100)*[Probability (%)]

ElseIf [Stage] = "05 - Closed Won" Then ([Total Bid Value])

End

Newbie, Tableau Desktop

Forecast Amount:      Sum of Active opps /100 * %     Sum of Mandates / 100 * %     Sum of wins

Hello Randi,

I found this thread that I believe I have information on achieving this desired result: Need help with table calculation

I would also review the Online Help documents on Tableau's forecasting.

Hope these help clarify how Tableau Forecasting works.

Cheers,
