Can you add a bit of a description? I love stuff like this, but upon opening the workbook, nothing happens when I click on the map (other than selecting a State). Many thanks for posting on Community!
Sorry for poor explanation.
Because of high demand which asks the step explanations in other SNS, I posted the steps here.
No problem -- the bigger issue for me is that nothing actually happens when I select something in the workbook. Can you double check your workbook or let me know what I am missing, as selecting a mark simply gives me a tooltip, per usual.
Hmmm... I was able to get an imperfect resolution to this puzzle:
I started with a unifying Dimension (I called it USA) which I added to the viz.
Next I duplicated the worksheets, removing [County] from the primary one.
Then I created two worksheet actions:
County Drill Down operates off State viz, affecting County viz, with all items showing when cleared.
State Drill Up operates off County viz, affecting State viz. This includes an added field of USA.
The net results is when a state is clicked, it jumps to the county view (filtered by that state). When a county is clicked, it jumps back to the USA map.
Couple of things aren't quite right, with my model though:
- When you return to the state map, while the whole USA is visible, the state you formerly selected is still highlighted. Your operation doesn't have this and is much cleaner.
- It seems like the trick could be done through a calculation on one viz using dimension swapping. We should be able to count the number of states selected with a LOD (and States in context?). Then, when only 1 is selected, flip our view from State/State to State/County. I wasn't able to get this to work, though, so I'll be watching for the results!
Thank you for posting!
