    Want to understand why a calculated field isn't populated with values

      Just trying to better understand how calculated fields work.  Attached workbook is a mishmash of the professor’s and my calculated fields and my extra visualization learning efforts as I grind through some of the vagaries of Tableau on my own. This question is not related to a homework assignment.

       

      Column excerpt:

      Encounter ID

      Calculated field “Encounter ID num records A”: {FIXED [Encounter ID]: count([Encounter ID])} gives me counts for number of Encounter ID entries.  OK.

      When I create another calculated field “Encounter ID num records B”,

      no fields are populated in the data pane:

      Just trying to understand why.
