Hello DDV,
Is this occurring to all users and all workbooks on the Tableau Server? Are there specific error messages being displayed to the users when they cannot open the workbook? Please include a screenshot of the error message if possible.
One troubelshooting step would be to republish the affected workbook to Tableau Server.
Hope this helps!
Cheers,
Byrne, Patrick

Greetings..
Thanks for your message.
Issue is not for all users and not for all workbooks.
Only few users are facing this kind of issue, most of the time the workbook is working fine and some times they are facing the issue and when we check from my end, we are not able to replicate the issue. When i check in logs i saw proxy error once.
I am attaching the screen shot for your reference.
Thanks and Regards

I think scheduler/Subscription E-mail might be running in the mean time, check about this and change the timings of Scheduler/Subscription.
Or else there might be a case of workbook contain complex calculation, for that reason users might be facing that issue.
To resolve this kind of problem go through the 20 best practices of Tableau Dashboard designing.

DDV Manjunath Oct 16, 2018 12:15 AM (in response to KANTHESH M.D)Dear Kanthesh,
Thanks for your message.
We already informed to users to schedule workbooks during non business hours.
Many of the users are using custom sql, this might be a reason. But most of the times they are able to open workbooks without any issue.
Thanks and Regards

Yes, Custom SQL should be used as a last resort. It's rarely a good idea and the vast majority of the time it will slow things down.
In my opinion you should drop two VizQL Server processes, drop two Data Server processes, and add two Backgrounder processes.
How many CPUs are being used on the server? Are you using core-based or user-based licensing? If user-based then you can easily add more CPUs...adding RAM certainly doesn't hurt if you can get it.

DDV Manjunath Oct 16, 2018 7:47 AM (in response to Toby Erkson)Dear Erkson,
Thanks for your suggestion.
We are using standalone server, and using Core-Based licensing.
I will check with Management regarding Adding RAM to the existing server.
however from last two days onwards CPU utilization is reaching 100% utilization. Even though nothing is running on backgrounder. but vizql process is consuming high memory. If I drop two vizql server process, will it wont affect on performance.
Thanks and Regards

2 of 2 people found this helpfulFor an 8core 64GB machine, 4 VizQL servers on top of having Backgrounder is somewhat overloading the system. Would strongly recommend dialing back the # of VizQL server processes to two only. Same for Data Server, given the specs 4 seems a bit much, would dial that back to two.

DDV Manjunath Oct 17, 2018 4:46 AM (in response to Mark McGhee)Dear Mark,
Thanks for your quick response.
We have so many workbooks and many users do web authoring on server. If we reduce vizql to two, again it will get a problem right? At present Management is not ready for any further investment on increasing of hardware upgrade.
Is there any best practices to minimize the performance slow?
Best Regards

3 of 3 people found this helpfulYou didn't mention this Web editing will use server resources! This is why we ask for details because there are many things to take into consideration that can matter.
From the admin guide: "Because VizQL server processes can consume a lot of CPU and memory, adding too many processes can slow down the server instead."
So read the page where I pulled the quote and really look at what is being asked of your environment. From there you can make adjustments and monitor to see if it helped or not. Since you have a core-based license the only real hardware improvements are increases in RAM but in the end you may find you ultimately need more cores. For example, growth for Tableau has grown very rapidly where I work and we've gone from a single, 8-core server to a 24-core license with two servers and are planning on getting more hardware to divvy-up the responsibilities. In other words, server & software settings will only get you so far and after that your environment will only improve with additional hardware (cores).
