    Initialuser error on Tableau Server

    Jeff Lee

      Hi,

Anyone who has connected Tableau Server to CDH Hive?

After installed Hive driver, I re-installed Tableau Server, but got "*** 503 Service Unavailable" when executed "$ tabcmd initialuser --server ‘localhost:80' --username ‘xxx' --password ". And I could not find enough error log in "~/.tableau/tabcmd/tabcmd.log" or “/var/opt/tableau/tableau_server/data/tabsvc/logs”. Is there anyone have ran into the same error?

My TB version is 2018.2, and the os is Ubuntu 16.04lts.

           Some log in tabcmd.log:

and I found serveral services not running:

        $ tsm status -v

        node1: localhost

              Status: RUNNING

'Tableau Server Gateway 0' is running.

'Tableau Server Application Server 0' is running.

'Tableau Server Database Maintenance 0' is stopped.

'Tableau Server Backup/Restore 0' is stopped.

'Tableau Server Site Import/Export 0' is stopped.

'Tableau Server SAML Service 0' is stopped.

Why I re-installed the server? I could no longer login the Server after I installed Hive driver and restart. That's may be a mistake.

          Hi Jeff,

The 4 services that are showing as 'stopped' should be stopped - those are only start when needed by Tableau Server. So it looks like Tableau Server is running.

Just by guessing from your description, I would think you probably missed a step when removing and reinstalling Tableau Server. I recommend opening a case with Tableau Technical Support, so the team can take a deeper look at your log files and help solve the issue. Installing a Hive driver should not have caused issues with Tableau Server, or needed a re-install, but Technical Support can help sort out what happened.
