I am curious to hear if anyone else has a better solution than this, but what I have done in cases like this is turn on "Hide Field Label for Rows" and then put the worksheet in a dashboard and make my own labels using text objects.
Below is how I would do it.
Create Calculated Fields with below formula
Month([Month]) and Name as "whatever you are looking for"
Year([Month]) and Name as "whatever you are looking for"
If you are looking for Month Name create a calculated field like this
Create you custom hierarchy using your newly created fields. You should be good to go
Please mark answer as correct or helpful if it helps.
By the way. I still need it as a Date format because I need it to link with the rest of the date filter.
I finally figured it out.
When Year of “month” or Month of “month ” happens
Extract date month segment by right click on date dimension> create> Custom Date
Extract segment for year then month. Make sure to extract date as Date value not Date part.
Once segment is created, customize Month date so not to get “ ‘month’ – ‘year’” ex. January-2018
I need to be a date not a string because the rest of the dashboard only recognized date.
The other methods I've seen all try to break and convert the date into strings and that messes up my filter.
Thank you by the way
