# Calculate "units" per person - with somewhat static denominator.

Hello.

Very basic sample workbook attached from 10.5.6.  I am pretty new to Tableau...... although I thought I had a bit of a handle on Context Filters, Order of Operations, and some basic understanding of FIXED expression......  but maybe not based on current struggles.

What I am attempting:

1. Filter all data in view by Department Code where = 1,2 or 3.     (I currently have applied this as a Context Filter)

2. Calculate count of tickets per month, no additional filters required for this example.     (I have a couple of calc fields created at the moment, but not sure either are ideal)

3. Calculate current count of unique users, also filtered by Status = Active.  These users should appear whether or not they had any tickets in their name.  Sample includes one user(Rachel) which has no tickets in her name during period.  (I have a couple of calc fields created at the moment, but not sure either are ideal)

4. Display quantity of tickets per user, per month.

Expected results:

April: 2 tickets / 4 users = .5 tickets per user

May: 17 tickets / 4 users = 4.25

June: 6 tickets / 4 users = 1.5

July: 6 tickets / 4 users = 1.5

Any help is truly appreciated.

Hi Rick,

Note :You need to fix month of your date instead to get the correct Fixed answer since you are fixing month not exact date/day

Making Department as CONTEXT is a good move.

I am getting accurate Tickets count.

I am little confused with your expectation with Users though since i can only see 2 unique users for the month of April and so on

For example Bob and Carli for the month of April , why are you expecting 4 there ?

Please find the attached sheet and let us know if it helps.

Also kindly mark the relevant answers as CORRECT/HELPFUL if anu of the responses really helped you so that it can help others as well.

Thanks,

Ritesh

Thanks Jim and Ritesh.  I probably did not perfectly explain my original question, but with both of your replies I was able to achieve the exact results I was looking for.

Specifically, the Exclude(Jim) and Fixed Month(Ritesh) examples you provided were very helpful.
