You can create the calculated field of the date selection you're trying to make. Drop that calculated field to the filter selection and select Relative Dates. Select Quarters and that should give you whatever you're looking for.

thanks Sag, but I am not looking how to make a date range filter...
i am looking to get the effect of the top date range filter in my screenshot can you see the difference between the 2?
You'll likely need some other Dimension value combined with your Date Range to SEGMENT the data to show that type of effect. For example, if you had 1st Shift, 2nd Shift and 3rd Shift, across a timeline (set to Continuous), as the user selects 1st Shift, then it would display only data for that period of time in the view and in the slider would only show the SEGMENTED amount of values found for that Dimension.
