    xlsx and shp file join

    Joseph de Foleschampe

      Hi,

I have been trying to join a Census Tiger shp file that has boundaries for U.S. MSAs with an associated xlsx file that has a common key without success.

I have tried changing data types in the xlsx from General, Number, and Text on separates attempts but no success.

In the attached I am trying to join:

      shp: Cbsafp

      xlsx: FIPS

as these are the Census codes (called FIP codes) that identify each U.S. MSA (Metropolitan Statistical Area).

Any guidance is greatly appreciated as this seems to be a simple procedure, but the join throw a red exclamation mark.

I have added the xlsx file, but the shp file is heavy.

Thanks so much for any help on this!!!!!
