I published the workbook using that Excel on a shared path as an extract data source.
Then I scheduled that refresh and it worked successfully.
But when IT removed my user's permissioin on that folder, refreshing is not working anymore.

Naveen B Jul 19, 2018 2:24 AM (in response to Francesca Grisanti)Hi Francesca,
No need for your user permission ask them give the Run as user full control on that file or on that folder
Run as user means Username which is given while installing the tableau Server
Follow the steps one by one automatically it will work
1) Place the excel file in shared path
2) The run as user should have access to that folder
a) In windows how to setup , Click ok the folder
b) Properties
c) security
d) Click on Edit
e) Provide the runas username
f) check names
g) Click ok
h) Select the runas user name in group or username section and provide the full control in “permissions for authenticated users”
i) click Apply
j) Click ok
3) Now connect to your excel , create your report and publish the workbook to server while publishing “Uncheck include external files”
4) Automotically your extraxts will get succeded

7. Re: Automatically update Excel data source on shared folder
Francesca Grisanti Jul 19, 2018 8:24 AM (in response to Sankarmagesh Rajan)I can't, there's sensitive data inside that folder.
So my username can't have access, the Tableau one can.

Francesca Grisanti Jul 20, 2018 3:08 AM (in response to Naveen B)Hi Naveen B
I followed all the steps and it still doesn't work.
I'm afraid somewhere my credentials are embedded, so after publishing the workbook on the server, when IT removes permissions on that shared folder for MY username, nothing is going to work anymore.
When I publish the workbook I use my username; maybe I should use the tableau user?
Where my credentials have been embedded?

Naveen B Jul 20, 2018 3:21 AM (in response to Francesca Grisanti)Hi Francesca,
Apart from excel is there any other data sources is added to the report?
After removing the permissions did you try to republish the workbook again ?
Does "Run User" have the permission on the respective folder?
could you please check this once and let me know will update you where its going wrong

10. Re: Automatically update Excel data source on shared folder
Francesca Grisanti Jul 20, 2018 3:29 AM (in response to Naveen B)Hi dear!
The report has only that data source
I can't republish the workbook again, because it can't check the datasource anymore because I didn't have permissions on the original folder.
Yes, it has.
Maybe I should publish the workbook not with my system username? Maybe I should use some other account?
