    Calculated Field

    LAWRENCE Slash

      Hi,

      I have the workbook attached.

At present my calculation works fine for Project plan,
Canada project 1 and Customer name 1.

The aim is to be able to add and remove customers Name to
projects and see what it does to the metrics.

      1. e.g if my Project Plan = Brandon Ph1-100%, Canada Project 1
= Brandon Ph1-100% I can add from my list of Customer name 1 and see how that
additional customer fit with the present group.

This first part works perfect just for Canada Project 1 and
      Customer Name 1.

My problem is, I can add a customer Name 2 to Canada project
2 but once I change the name the previous name added goes away from the graph. How
can I make that name stay?

      1. e.g Project Plan = Brandon Ph1-100%, Canada Project 1 =
Brandon Ph1-100% and Customer name 1 = none.

Adding Canada Project 2 = Brandon Ph1-100% and adding
Customer name 2 = Kim Jon we see the additional in the graph.

Once I go back to Customer Name 1 to remove John Nee, Both
John Nee and Kim Jon is removed.

I only want John Nee removed from graph. And Kim Jon to remain.

I also want to be able to remove names and that remove will
only remove the name I selected.

Please how do i achieve this?

      Thanks

          Hello Lawrence,

It appears that none of your "Parameters" have any related calculations.  The reason is because when one selects Project Plan (ALL) then All of the values appear in the graph, and then subsequently selecting any of the "Parameters" which should then filter based on the users selection...well, they don't change and they should.

This means that you'll need to define a calculation for each parameter to filter on, if that's the expectation and to continue using Parameters.  More work needs to be done/defined.  For example, Canada Project 1 through 3 all contain the same values.  Canada Project and Project Plan are also the same values.  How are they distinctly different per plan/project in order to filter properly?  You'll need to define that.

In the meantime, if there aren't any other distinctions or unique values that would change, then this is how I'd filter the plan/projects and customers to get to the view you're looking for:

            Thanks a lot Don.

Please how do I fix this.

            Based on your observation below.

"It appears that none of your "Parameters" have any related calculations.  The reason is because when one selects Project Plan (ALL) then All of the values appear in the graph, and then subsequently selecting any of the "Parameters" which should then filter based on the users selection...well, they don't change and they should"

              Hi Lawrence,

Please review this example from the help section of Tableau so that you might better understand: Example – Swap Measures Using Parameters

              Good luck! Don
