What version of Tableau Server?
I'm going to say "no" since each workbook is saved individually; they are not going through a configuration file that alters what's in the "template".

Hi Naveen
As Toby said, having workbooks based on other workbooks isn't possible in Tableau. The workbooks are all independent instances.
You can create a sheet to use as a 'template' by saving it as a bookmark (Save Your Work ) , but when you then use it, it still is just a copy of that sheet at that point in time, so if you update the bookmark file, the workbooks created from it are not altered in any way.
One option you might want to consider is creating a published data source on Tableau Server that contains your calculated fields, and point all your workbooks at this data source. Then if the definitiion of the calculated field changes, you can alter the data source and the changes will be reflected in the associated workbooks. However, this will be dependent on what the calculated field is actually doing - eg if it is referencing a paramater, then this method won't work.

Naveen Kankate May 8, 2018 7:57 AM (in response to Donna Coles)Hi Donna,
Thanks a lot for your response. I wish tableau had a connected workbooks feature. The use case being to avoid maintenance of individual workbooks.
Once again, Thanks a lot.

Hi Naveen
You can log an idea if you're able to articulate exactly the type of behaviour you expect or check out the existing ideas associated with 'workbook templates' here https://community.tableau.com/search.jspa?q=workbook+template&place=%2Fplaces%2F1029&depth=ALL
For now, another option I just thought of that you may want to consider, is the ability to save customised views of a workbook. For example if you publish a workbook containing all the information for all models, but expose the car model as a parameter to select, you could create a custom view per car model (Use Custom Views ). You can then make each custom view public and share with users, so they will directly access the workbook as that car model.
