I tried a few things so not sure which did but I think you have to be admin, and remove the read only attributes of your tableau folder and all their subfolders.
I no longer get that error, but now I have another error
C:\Program Files\Tableau\Tableau Server\2018.1\bin>tabadmin start
===== Starting service...
===== Unable to determine if all components of the service started properly. See "tabadmin.log" for more information.com.tableausoftware.tabctl.dll.NoServiceError: No service named 'tabsvc' is installed (1060).
Yes Even I have this issue when I'm trying to start the service.
May I know clearly the steps for the read only attributes.
Using windows explorer, right click on your tableau folder (assuming you have admin rights)
Unclick the read only and click ok.
I also rebooted my server box (not tableau service but the computer its installed on)
Now, I just uninstalled and am reinstalling tableau server in hopes of getting it to work.
I swear, not once have I had a tableau server upgrade run smoothly sheesh
When you mean server box did you restart it(WIndows server)?
When you uninstall, all the components related to it would get uninstalled right? which means even the worker nodes and backup primary node?
yes on windows server and yes on uninstalling tableau server. I only have a primary
Okay In my situation I have a primary with two worker nodes and one backup node. This is on Production. So, Im still wondering if it would be appropriate to uninstall the tableau server on primary?
I dont know. I had a couple of backups and already gave company heads up I'll be working on the server on the weekend so it was low risk for me.
fyi, its finally all working on my end by
1) clearing out the initial cleanup failed error
2) uninstalling and reinstalling tableau server
Can finally go to sleep now ZZZzzzz
