Thank you for your reply.
Sorry, I should of used an example that is exactly what I am using from the report. It is a string but it is not the exact year. I am counting the years with the date (year) next to it.
I am having trouble converting a String that is in the Dimensions Box to a Continuous data.
I have attached a new copy of the dashboard with the exact years that I am using.
This is the plot below that it looks like in excel spreadsheet.

Shin's solution should work - you just need to convert your year to an integer.
Your year field shows 2 years e.g. 2010-11 - so I would just take the first 4 characters of this and convert it to an int. So you create calculated field:
and if you follow Shin's suggestions above, it should work fine.
Yes, handling string value needs different solution than my provided option.
Here is little bit tricky one if you still need.
Add place holder on 2nd axis, with synchronize to make space for negative value area for header.
Add header for every 5 year.
Add some formatting and hide axis.

Thank you for your reply. Yes the alternative method that you have provided works. However it seems like Tableau does not have an automatic apply label intervals option on the x axis. It will be a significant limitation using Tableau Desktop for a large quantity of data analysis work. I hope in the future it would be an option.
Thanks for your help again.
