Tableau Desktop can connect to both Google Analytics or Google Big Query. Below are links to the Tableau Online help for Google BigQuery and Google Analytics.
Feel free to comment with any addtional questions you may have.
Hope this helps!
I am looking to connect to Google Analytics for Firebase, rather than traditional Google Analytics for web.
Do you have any suggestions for this, or do I need to go through Google Big Query?

Tableau Desktop would currenlty need to run through Big Query to use one of the named connectors. I would add an Idea to the forum for native support for the Firebase data source.
Ideas can be submitted to the Tableau Project Management team through the forum found here: Ideas
I have synced our Google Analytics for Firebase accounts with Google BigQuery. When I link Tableau natively to Google BigQuery, i get a new table for each day called "app_evets_date", which gives parameters and measures which are not our app events. When I try to put these measures and dimensions on a sheet, or update the data, I get the error message:
"The Google BigQuery service was unable to compile the query. Unrecognised name: 'event_dim.date' at (1:37)".
Do you have any suggestions for this?
I am looking to connect Tableau to Google Analytics for Firebase so that our team can visualise and analyse the data we are getting into GA for various app projects.
