In addition to directions provided by Shinichiro Murakami find my approach as reference below and stored in attached workbook version 10.3 located in the original thread.
1. D1. 2017/2018: if CONTAINS([Year],"2018")then 2018 else 2017 END
2. Drag the required objects to the indicated locations and show filter D1. 2017/2018

worked like a magic
I am not sure I understand your request correctly,
but You can only filter "2017" when you pick 2017 in the filter in that case, then 2018 and 2017-2018 when you pick 2018 with this alternative??
2017 falls under 2017
2017-2018 means these are carry overs to 2018... and data related to them should be 2018..
How can i Use this calculation field for other sheets which use the same custom query
Can i use this calculation as a global filter for other sheets using related datasource??
Hi murtaza farooqui,
You can use Norbert Maijoor 's calculated field can be applied as global filter for other sheets using related data source.

This calculation did work but it throws me duplicates..
It picks up a site 'HRNDVAST' it is in both 2017 as well as 2017-2018(To be counted as 2018) ..
when i select 2017 it shows up so it does for 2018...
but it repeats it self again in the next row
