Conditional Line Formatting without Breaking Data Points

I have a line graph that shows values by week ending dates. I would like to apply conditional formatting for dates that fall within certain periods; so if dates fall before a certain date then the line would be "Color1" and any dates after that period would be in "Color2". The problem is that when I try to apply this type of conditional formatting, then it causes a line break between data points at the specified conditional date.

According to this article: Data Points in Line Chart Not Connecting Using Continuous Date | Tableau Software the reason this causes a line break is because it's not a "continuous" field; which obviously makes sense. But does anyone know of any way around this? So that I can apply the conditional color formatting without breaking the line? Thanks!
