    Unable to connect to Oracle DB using a SID

    anthony bouttell

      I have just installed Tableau Desktop, 10.3.6 (10300.17.1206.1553) 64 bit

      and the Tableau Oracle Driver (10300.17.0915.2101)

      My TNSNames.ora file looks like this:

      BIGDATA =

        (DESCRIPTION =

          (ADDRESS_LIST =

            (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = BIGDATA)(PORT = 1521))

          )

          (CONNECT_DATA =

            (SID = SIDNAME)

          )

      The Tableau, Oracle logon screen has  the correct server, Username and password

      When I try to connect I get this message:

      Oracle database error 12504: ORA-12504: TNS:listener was not given the SERVICE_NAME in CONNECT_DATA

      Unable to connect to the server "BIGDATA". Check that the server is running and that you have access privileges to the requested database.

      I cant figure out what is wrong. I can connect to the DB using the standard tools, (Oracle SQL Developer, TOAD)

      Any help would be appreciated.

      Thanks
