This behavior results from a limitation of the Windows Command Prompt, rather than Tableau Server or Online.
The listed characters are used as operators in Windows Command Prompt and cannot be used as part of a password in tabcmd.
I would advise you to change the password for Tableau Online or Tableau Server to one which does not use the following characters or combinations of characters:
| < > \ ^ + = ? / [ ] ” ; , * : %
">>" ">&" "<&"
Have you tried the following?
java -jar tabcmd.jar login --server http://18.104.22.168 -u <publisher1> --password-file storePswd.txt

Thanks for the reply. But my password does not contain any special character. I tried what you have suggested but its still not working. I also tried doing the same on my Windows box usign the tabcmd utility and faced the same problem.
First I tried the following:
C:\Users\abc\Documents\tabcmd\utility>tabcmd login --server http://22.214.171.124 -u publisher1 -p publisher
The above is working fine! Then I created a password.txt file and copied publisher into it. Saved. Placed this file in the same folder as tabcmd.exe. Then trying the following:
C:\Users\abc\Documents\tabcmd\utility>tabcmd login --server http://126.96.36.199 -u publisher1 --password-file password.txt
This is NOT working. This should work right ? Am I missing something here?
Oh. Its working now. Although my text file had no special character, when I did a cat on that file in my linux box, there were two special characters in the beginning. I just rm the file and did and echo of the password in the file again. Its working now. Thanks.
