    Create extra dimension [MAP]

    Yuriy Ovchinnikov

      Hi gyus,

I've got a workbook with Specified Geo Areas, say Center, West, South, etc.

Now I want to tell Tableau States are grouped under each Area.

Say, Center consist of Kansas, Oklahoma, etc.

Then I will mark these Areas on the map.

      Thank you,

          Hi Yuriy,

If you have a geo code file with latitude and longitude details then you will definitely able do this.

Let me know how exactly your data set is!! I will try to help.

          Thanks

          Sandeep

Sandeep, thank you for prompt reply!

It seems that I put misleading text above.

Instead of 'I've got a workbook with Specified Geo Areas, say Center, West, South, etc'

I've got a workbook with arbitrary assigned text Center, West, South, etc, which are implicitly meaningful)

So, nope, the file doesn't contain any latitude and longitude details.

This is what I want to tell Tableau using calculated field or whatever.

            Thank you,

              That makes sense Yuriy.

Region is not a defined geographical component in tableau. Hence pointing a dedicated map area is not possible by default.

That can be done by importing your custom geocoding I Guess.

In other way if you want to show states in one groups then you can try grouping states into those regions and then put color coding as per region.

I am not sure how much its helpful to your requirement but as of now I can suggest this much!!

It will be helpful to understand your query in better way if a sample screen image of your required output  will be shared!

              Thanks
