Pareto Analysis - display only summary counts

    arvind B

We are using a file connection to Tableau 10.2.3 . I know that a pareto chart is possible when all the data is part of the table  & use table calculation to achieve running total. My Q is - is it  a possibility to display only summarized count in the dashboard without showing the entire table or using table-calculation. The source is file & hence i believe it is not possible to write SQL to loop thru the data and get a count.

Business requirement is to display only the summary counts & hence cannot use table calculation.

          Hi

see the attached - I used super store data since it is readily available -

Start making a text chart with the following calculated fields

          % of total =          sum([Sales])/WINDOW_SUM(SUM([Sales]))

          and a running % of total =          RUNNING_SUM(sum([Sales])/WINDOW_SUM(SUM([Sales])))

Place them on the chart like shown below

Now you can copy and drag the values you don't want off the viz and then plot - see below for the individual % of total

and these for the running total

Let me know if this helped

          Jim

            Jim

Thank you so much for your quick response. Unfortunately am looking for a solution without using table calculations. In your graph the months nov 2016... etc are still part of the chart, i desire a solution where i can present a summary output without details in the final graphic /table

            thanks

            arvind

              Hi

Your post about Pareto chart works for me where I am creating a calculation using measure value from two data sources ( data blending).

              thank you so much!!
