Hi Gail Boozer,
What format were the geospatial files delivered in to you? If you received Shapefiles or MapInfo Tables (most likely one of these formats), then you can direct connect to these datasets in Tableau version 10.2. What version are you using?
I am unfortunately only on 10.1 though I'm badgering my platform team to upgrade. I tested opening spatial files as a data source in 10.3 beta and it is nice.
We have the "raw" files (.shp, .shx, .dbf, etc.). I have points in a csv and I can make a point map work find but that isn't acceptable to my users. I have taken the raw .shp file into QGIS, manipulated it per this great post https://community.tableau.com/docs/DOC-5831 and output a csv but because a post code in Russia is not unique (can be in 1 or many districts) that is where I fail.
