# using percenatge of total

Have a data set where I have used rank to display the top 10 items.

Sheet 1 is the complete data set.

Sheet 2 have used the rank function to display the top 10 .

Sheet 3 have used table calculation to calulate the percent of total. but it is caluclating the percentage taking grand total for the whole table.

I want to calulate the percenatge of total only using the total for these top 10 items and not the whole table(grand total)

i.e percenatge of total amongst these displayed top 10 items.

Using top n filters solves this but dont want to use that as top n filters only shows the top 10 data and ignores the rest , if the data is repeated ie.

if dat is 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 1 , top 10 will only display 10 9  8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 and ignore the last 1 , but rank_modified displays them all.

sarvesh chandra : I believe you can do it in a much simpler way :

1. Create a Set From the first column - I named it Product Name for example - and used the Top 10 option based on the second column
2. Put it as Filter on this Specific Sheet
3. Drag the two columns to the sheet and use the percent of total from the second field and you will see that it works only on the top 10

Was ''triggered" by your post and added "the percentage within the set" to my workbook". Thanks for that:)

1. set: {fixed[Top N IND by Value]:sum ([Value])}

2. % of set: [Value]/[set]

Wow I am actually flattered !

It is a VERY interesting endeavor to try different solutions for the same problem and I believe I would always opt-in for the “simplest” possible solution – if that exists.

This works but when we have the following data

then top 10 shows wrong results

 A09419 15 A09530 2 A09614 5 A09955 2 A09970 18 A09971 10 A09972 18 A09973 6 A09985 2 A09989 8 A10063 14 A10552 5 A10825 2

tableau shows only these values in top 10

and ignores the rest , in actual all the data in above comes under top 10 and should be displayed.

Would there be any way to send me the workbook that you are working on to understand where it goes wrong ?
