    Counting joined rows

    Tom Bradley

      Hi all,

I am just starting out with Tableau (just testing out really to see if it's what I need) and I am having trouble which I can only assume is one of the most basic functions.

I want to show a count of rows

      as an example I have

      TableA

      UserIDName
      1Joe Blogs
      2Dave Smith
      3Andrew Roberts

      TableB

      EventIDUserID
      12
      22
      32
      41
      51
      63
      72
      83
      91

I have inner joined the tables

      TableB.UserID=TableA.UserID

And I want to spit out a simple report that gives a count of the events that each user is associated with i.e.

      NameEvent Count
      Joe Blogs3
      Dave Smith4
      Andrew Roberts2

But for the life of me I can't get it to work... I can drop in "Name" and display them.. I can drop in EventID to show all the individual events each user is associated with... but I can't do a simple Count(EventID) (the report always blanks out)

Am I missing something blindly obvious here?

Thanks for any help you can give.

      Tom
