Can I distribute my report to users using live connection?

          Hi Vibhu,

The end user need to have Tableau desktop installed on their machines to see the distributed Tableau report; Moreover, you need to share the credentials as well if there are any.

Alternatively, You can send them the package file, which can be opened using freely available Tableau reader.

          Hope this helps!!

          Thanks,

          Dhruv

If you by distribute mean send as a file, then that requires as Dhruv mentioned that the receivers have Tableau Desktop.

Otherwise you can publish your dashboards to a Tableau Server to allow for massive distribution

I think Tableau Server is good option

then why we need tableau packaged workbooks (twbx) if we can distribute reports using server?

Well, If Tableau server is available in your organization then there is no better option to share the Tableau workbook other than Tableau server.

                Thanks,

                Dhruv

I would advise to prove the business case before starting a server license purchase

Server is either licensed per user ($$$), or per core ($$$$$)

If licensed by user, you may not have enough licenses for all users, and therefore packaged workbooks are useful, they also dont require an internet connection (or access to your network), so are good for offline working.

Security and need of live data are the 2 biggest things to think about...
