What needs to change to decrease the connection time to DataSource?

I'm new to Tableau. Using the latest version 10.2 Professional. I have a MySQL DataSource in the backend.

I am trying to visualize a simple MySQL view on Tableau. (MySQL is on AWS). This simple operation takes almost 20 seconds - which is huge for a simple fetch! Doing a "Performace Recording" resulted in below

From the performance summary I understand that

      - Connecting to the Data Source is taking most of the time (19 seconds)

      - Query itself (1 second)

      Questions

      1. What are the likely reasons why connecting to DataSource from Tableau is taking so much time? (A simple GUI MySQL client takes about 3 seconds)

      2. What needs to change to decrease the connection time to DataSource?
