    live or extract mode

    Guy Kaufman

i have data source with total of ~500 columns over 10 joined tables from my sql server 2016 DWH.in general in such cases due to the many columns, should i consider live or extract mode?

assuming i will migrate my DWH to AWS Redshift what will be the answer then.

      Thanks

      Guy

          Hi Guy,

usually, you'll want to extract to:

          • Improve performance
          • Use Tableau functionality that’s not available in the Source
          • Provide offline access to your data

Use live connections for data that's changing often (and if you need the most recent versions at any time).

I suggest using extracts whenever you don't need live data (and refreshes don't take hours).

          Kind regards,

          Wim
