Hi, Everyone!

I would like to do that gradient effect in bars, but the only thing I got was color grading by value on each bar. Can you help me to do that on tableau?

thx

Hi Leonardo

I only can provide very troublesome method.

That's not seamless color change but step functions.

Depends on how many step wanted, you need to create that number -1 of calculate d fields.

[20%]

sum([Value]*.2)

[40%]

sum([Value]*.4)

and stack mark off.

Hi,

In Tableau we can do coloring of continuous measures in two ways:1. sequential 2. diverging gradients.  There is a wonderful article where you can get the idea how these two ways will work. Please check the link:https://www.interworks.com/blog/rrouse/2014/12/15/understanding-sequential-and-diverging-color-palettes-tableau

Dunno why I'm doing this -- those gradients inside bars make no sense to me --

may be just to mention that there is one type of viz where gradient colours apply --

a Line Chart.

Dunno if this could help, though :-)

Yours,

Yuri

Thanks, Everyone!

Doesn't make sense to me too, but boss asked, so we do.

In the line example that YURIY FAL posted, the viz looks a lot better if you make the color at the bottom white. But I would still try to talk your boss out of it.
To get white as a color you have to edit the preferences.tps file which should be in Documents\My Tableau Repository.

<?xml version='1.0'?>

<workbook>

<preferences>

<color-palette name="Black and White Palette" type="regular" >

<color>#FFFFFF</color>

<color>#000000</color>

</color-palette>

</preferences>

</workbook>

This adds a new color palette with Black and white. I have used white with donut charts where the center changes color if a KPI is not met.

Maybe it's a good opportunity to explain to the boss that this is "chart junk" (or bordering on chart junk) and not a usual feature of Tableau

There's some amazing answers here if you really want to do it, but it's not out of the box functionality for a reason as well.
