    Filter Action Help please

    JayC

      Hi All,

I am in need of help on actions (filter).
Would it be possible to control 2 different sheets with 1 common filter on a dashboard.?

In the attached Example if i select 'Afgh' in the ctrl filter..then sheet 1 & 2 should filter for selected country only.

Note user can select multiple values and action should filter out the same in both sheets.

I am able to get it work on a separate sheet with all values displayed as it is but is not working when used as a filter.

      Kindly help.

          Hi Jayachandra

This is little bit tricky because, I believe, you are trying to filter different fields with same name.

In this case, you need to duplicate data to allow Tableau to show filter-out-ed data in other table.

I used Union to achieve this.

          Need some other prep.

          [CTRL Filter]

if [Table Name]= "Sheet1" then [Send] else [Recv] end

          [Title]

if [Table Name]= "Sheet1" then "Send"  else "Recv" end

          Then,

Sheet "Send" is for "Send" by using Data source "Sheet1"

Sheet "Recv" is for "Recv" by using Data source "Sheet11"

So respective [Table Name] filter is added on both sheets and filtered accordingly.

Then because user cannot distinguish which is which, I added [Title] on column.

Now you change [CTRL Filter] filter as universal.

And get Dashboard work as expected.

          Thanks,

          Shin
