having trouble setting aliases for quick filters when the datasource is a Microsoft Analytics data cube

We are using a data cube of our company's global inventory levels. The inventory of product is broken out in many different descriptions; one of which is material group. These show as dimensions. The assigned groups are numerically titled (001, 002, 011, etc) and I am trying set aliases for the material groups (cogs, rotors, shafts, etc) but the option to click on the dimension "material group" then select default settings and set aliases doesn't exist.  We have not yet upgraded our company to Tableau 10.0 so we are still using 9.3.6.  Is there a work around for this?  Creating a calculated field does not seem to work when your datasource is a data cube.
