It looks like the example web data connector has been removed from the github repository. Most likely because they are updating all content to refer to Version 2 of the Web Data Connector.
If you have built existing Web Data Connectors yourself using this example code, they should still work. Can you share the source code for the samples you have built?
Thanks Tom W
Unfortunately I do not have the source code. I did everything through that XML connector.
The master branch of the WDC GitHub repository will always be up to date with the latest version of the WDC API (currently, 2.1). All of the sample code for old versions of the API are still available.
You can access previous version by clicking on branches, then selecting the tags tab, then selecting the version of your choice.
There are also many ways to host this connector yourself for free, we offer some guidance in the docs: http://tableau.github.io/webdataconnector/docs/wdc_hosting_and_submissions
If you just want to skip that, I also just threw up the old samples into a personal repository which you can use. While it is a better practice to just host your own if it's mission critical, I won't take this repository down.
Hi Brendan, does this mean the xml will not be updated to 2.1?
I am just seaching for an XML Connector, too which I can use (the html and the js)
The XML connector was a V1 sample that we didn't replicate when we built the V2 SDK. The reason we didn't bring it forward is that samples are intended to be succinct and focus on teaching something new about the WDC API. The JSON/XML connectors were complex and didn't teach anything new about the WDC API. They also were very basic and didn't work for a large number of situations.
That being said, the V1 connector still works with every version of Tableau 9.1 or higher. Even though it's not using the latest version of the API it'll function the same regardless of Tableau version.
