    Tableau server login issue (http://xx.xx.xx.xxx/#/signin?error=17)

    Ashish Chaudhari

      Hi Community,

I am very new to setting up the tableau server. I have installed tableau server 10.1 on the server machin with the local authetication method. When I am trying to login to the server with admin account using any machin I am getting below error.

If you notice the URL, it automatically appends the /#/signin?error=17 and below in red note I am getting the message as "Sign In Failed". I am not sure why this is happenning. It should be only the IP address as per my knowledge.

After setting up Tableau server First Login -> Sucessful but Second Login ->Unsucessful. (I thought I forgot the password thus, I used Tabadmin command to reset the password which worked well and I was able to Login again.)

Now very next day, I get a call that users are not able access the tableau server with the above URL issues which appends signin failed with error code 17 with a message which says Sign in failed without even putting credential (after page is loaded).

I thought as a Admin user I will be able to reset the password again using Tabadmin command but now it is throwing me an error. Please refer below screenshot. As mentioned above yesterday I was sucessfully able to change the password and login using the same. What is tableau server doing by connecting Localhost:8060 which is being refused?

Can any one tell me what can be done in this case? I am badly stuck in this one.

Toby Erkson , Tharashasank Davuluru , Patrick A Van Der Hyde, Tableau Community . Apologies for tagging personally and calling out here.

(Devansh Vora, you can refer to the solution or response here.)

      Any help is appreciated.

      Thanks in advance.

          Hi Community,

I have received below response from the community. Let me know your views on the same. I am not having the access right now.

"From the Tableau community post provided, the issue manifests as Users not able to access the tableau server with the above URL issues which appends Sign in failed with error code 17 with a message which says Sign in failed without even putting credential (after page is loaded). There is also a reference to a connecting Localhost:8060 which is being refused.

This issue may occur after upgrading to Tableau Server 10, the login window may load in browser with a "Sign In Failed" error.

Additionally, tabadmin status -v may indicate that the Tableau Server Repository is stopped or setting up; and the logs may indicate: "PSQLException: Connection to localhost:8060 refused".

The login window loads with "sign in failed". The has been known to happen especially in an environment with disk latency.

To resolve, please follow these steps:

Increase the clustercontroller timeout setting for Postgres (the Tableau Server repository). Open the Command Prompt as an administrator and navigate to the bin directory:

          cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Tableau\Tableau Server\10.1

          Cd bin

          Then type:

          tabadmin stop

tadadmin set clustercontroller.pgsql_connection_timeout_ms 12000 (up to 180000 in single node environment)

          tabadmin config

          tabadmin start

The steps are available in the below reference:

            Toby Erkson

I have no idea.  We are on 10.0.1 and haven't gone to 10.1.  Contacting support was good so follow what they wrote.  Let us know how this gets resolved because it may become an issue for others.  What was the version of your Tableau Server before going to 10.1?

              Hi Toby,

Thanks for the response. This is the first install of Tableau server (not an upgradation). Organisation is going to start using Tableau from next week onwards.

I will follow the steps mentioned above and refer to the KB articles to resolve this issue. I will let you know the status of the issue.

              Thanks again,

                Hey Ashish,

i did face the same issue for a while.

Please check for status using tabadmin status -v.

If it shows repository is setting up then try to wait for a while until the server is up if still you face the same issue try restarting the server using tabadmin restart.

let me know if it helps.

                Regards,

                Sudhakar Reddy

                  Hi Sudhakar,

Thanks for your help. I did try restarting the server it did not worked that day. I did show that setting up and repository. Next day my colleague went to the site and with a simple restart server changed the game. He was able to login to the server using the credentials that I have set for the admin user. Not sure how did this happened. Day before that I have gone through multiple restarts for the service to resolve the case but didn't work.

He didn't tried following the steps that Tableau support that have sent. Its kind of weird thing I have witnessed. There is possibly not exact reason for this behavior was detected.

Devansh Vora, if possible then please provide input if anything is missing.

                  Thanks for the support.
