Hi Isa,

Next to the approach provided by Sherzodbek Ibragimov you could also define groups without any coding

Simple approach, but lets look at below scenarios:

In such case, manual grouping is not very practical since you have to group each day for each season for each year if you have more than 1 year. But, if you do a calculation, regardless of years, months, days, you will do it once with 5 rows of calculation. Thank you

Another thing, I am not in favor of grouping, especially when it comes certain type of data where they will add to the list every day, for example. Therefore, you have to keep grouping them after each period otherwise they will not be included in the grouping. For example, if you grouped everything by today, and if you check tomorrow and you will be surprised that that tomorrow's date will appear outside of grouping. So you have to go back and forth to include them to right grouping all the time, so still manual fixing involved. FYI.

Yeah,I was facing that problem. So I created calculated field for my date.then formatted that calculated field to be Only Month level. So I could group them as january,Feb etc only by month level not specifying the year.Just like how you have shown on your first group.I think that works now.

Thank you so much .

Sherzod,

As allways in Tableau there are "many ways to Rome" just as a alternative;)

You got a point but in groups is also a "Find member"-feature so finding entries in a huge amount of data.

The last thing your mentioning is a something you really have to consider for the "run-phase".

So, if you were able to achieve your desired result, it would nice of you to marked as answered in order to help community members to sort out questions that needs to be answered as well as help other users to find it helpful if they also come across with your situation.

Thank you so much for your alternative thoughts on grouping. I totally agree with you. Here, I just wanted to clarify it based on this case, but definitely I myself find grouping very useful, especially with data type that don't change very often. Having said that, I couldn't figure out what do you mean by "consider for the "run-phase". Can you please elaborate it for me, very curious about it. Thanks again

Good evening Sherzodbek Ibragimov

Concerning the "run-phase": I can imagine that you can use grouping for dimension with minor values which won't change over time (e.g. Company Code, etc). Dimension with a great amount of value which change (entries get added)  often over time are less suited for grouping (e.g. Profit-center, cost-center, Customer etc)..

Hope it's clear.

Have a nice one.
