I'm struggling to get some aesthetics rights for a Tableau Dashboard (Sample attached) with dates in the x-axis. The dashboard is updated weekley, so the date ranges are dynamic.
1) When using dates as a continuous pill. We can select the frequency of the tick marks (Great) but we always get a lot of unused space on both ends of the chart.
Is it possible to dynamically get rid of this space and just show the dates as selected in the Date filter?
2) When using dates as discrete. Tableau automatically will show the range we are interested (Great), but we cannot select the frequency of the ticks.
Is there a mid point in any of the cases?
Also, is there any hack to have the x-axis lables show above the bottom line, instead of below?
Sounds like both your desire to move the x-axis and edit the axis on discrete dates are great ideas for our Ideas section. Shawn Wallwork provides a great explanation for why editing an axis with discrete dates is not currently possible:
