# To find New Customers Need Help in Logic / Calculation

HI Tableau Guys,

Greetings ,

Suppose I am looking to find newly logged in user in my website with my data like below :

App_ID                                     ,  Device_ID                                ,  Created_At ,  Duration     ,  Page  , Hits  , Status

Example : When same APP ID is coming repeatedly - OLD USER   / Newly Arriving APP ID should be termed as NEW USER

If we have seen the pair before, it's a returning user.

If we have not seen the pair before, it's a net new user.

Thank you !

Hi Prasanna, there are a few ways you could do this. For instance, you could put [App_ID] in the rows shelf and then put [Number of Records] in the Text mark, and any time the number of records is 1, that is a new user.

Like David stated there are several ways you could do this.  An LOD might provide a little more flexibility as it won't require App_ID in the view.

IF { Fixed APP_ID : Count(APP_ID) } > 1 THEN 'Returning' ELSE 'New' END

Thanks for the valuable suggestion.
But when I change the date range will it work correctly .

EG :  Like if i want to see for Date Range of Created_At , who are new and Old user will it works ?

For JAN - This X no of New User / Old  for FEB this XX Much New User and XXX old User

Hi Prasanna, It should if you add your date filter to context.

Hi Ivan,

I am trying to understand , what will happen internally in tableau when we use  { FIXED <dimension> } . Also I was thinking why not we can use the direct COUNT (APP_ID ) > 1

Sorry don't take me wrong , I am noob and trying to explore.
