Joining Tableau Server Published Data Sources

Using Tableau 10 Server and Desktop...

I am currently trying to solve an issue where my Tableau Published data source takes over 2.5hrs to complete. The set is about 13m records which shouldn't be a crazy amount of Tableau to handle. It times out and does take about 30m on my desktop (2m for actual query run, the rest for importing rows).

The published data source is a data set that is joined to a static table that duplicates each of the rows in the data set by 4 or 6 which is necessary to complete the visualization. I wanted to split it into TWO published data sources for faster extract time. Can I join these two together? I know I can blend but that'll give me performance issues and likely break the viz.
