Do you have any extract or datasource filters setup for these two datasources?
Also, when you say "when working through Tableau Desktop" - do you mean that you are connecting to same published and extracted datasource you are refreshing? Or connecting directly to Oracle view?
To understand exactly what's going on you'd have to look at backgrounder*.txt logs under C:\ProgramData\Tableau\Tableau Server\data\tabsvc\vizqlserver\Logs (this exact path, not the one you are currently looking at). There will be an "end-query" event that will look something like "SELECT 1 AS "Number of Records" ..." and "rows" attribute is number of rows Tableau actually got from Oracle.
No filters setup for either datasource.
The extract does not work through tableau desktop, but we are able to connect directly to the view and get records back.
I will check go through the file that you pointed me too.
That log file helped me out. I was able to find the actual SQL that Tableau was running and discovered that the person who created the extract accidentally created it with some filters that should not have existed.
Great to hear!
Was it not clear from Tableau's UI that filters are applied or it's a simple miscommunication between people?
Miscommunication between people, or growing pains as we were learning to use Tableau, or both
