Do you have a core based license or named user license? If you have a named user license with 10 interactors / viewers, I'm under the impression that only 10 will be able to login.
Jeff, Thanks for the reply, I will verify if that is the case.
Thank for replying, We have 10 user license not core, the client has misspoken when she stated logging on, it is just to view the report. so, does license effect viewing the report as well. if not the license any other issue that might prevent users to view the report.
Your best bet is to reach out to your Tableau account rep. My company has core based licenses, so we don't know all the ins and outs anymore of named users, but below is a link. And at one time Tableau distinguished between interactors and viewer roles, I lose track if they still do this as part of selling named user licenses. Toby Erkson Do you know?
When using user based licensing your are limited to the number of user licenses that you have purchased. In your case 10.
This means that there are 10 named users on the system. Tableau doesnt distinguish between viewers, interactors, Publishers, etc.
They all count as one license.
You can add more users to the Tableau Server, but they will be 'unlicensed' which means that they cannot access any content.
You can move a license from one user to another (ie take a license from an interactor, and give it to unlicensed, in which case the interactor becomes unlicensed, and the unlicensed becomes an interactor / publisher or whatever.)
If you want to add more users to your server you will need to purchase more licenses.
I dont believe that Tableau sells viewer type licenses. They just sell a user license.
The alternative to purchasing more licenses is to export content (as packaged workbook, pdf) and distribute to the unlicensed users outside of tableau (say via email)
Hope this helps
Thanks Glen. I will let my client know.
Thanks for the call-out Jeff Glen took the words outta my mouth, only he explained it a lot better than I would have
