What I'm gathering is basically I need to combine the 'dates' into one date field
Hi, to me it sounds like you may want to union the separate data sources?
It would basically combine the data sources so it kind of looks like this...
Source Date Value Source1 10/29/2016 0.784368 Source1 10/30/2016 0.628439 Source1 10/31/2016 0.217751 Source1 11/1/2016 0.440719 Source2 4/2/2014 0.920822 Source2 4/3/2014 0.597562 Source2 4/4/2014 0.343831 Source2 4/5/2014 0.917424

Thank you for responding! It would seem I need to union the dates, but the example provided show how to union separate files. My biggest problem is one source is a separate text file while one is on Tableau Server.
I'm not sure how to union from two different types of sources.
Hm, i don't think you will be able to union them if one is on tableau server. The next thought would be custom sql but that wont work with your disparate data sources either.
Maybe someone can prove me wrong. You may have to deal with combining he data outside of tableau. Sorry i couldn't help.
Do you have the luxury of adding a common field between these data sources and fill it with a value say '1' ?
Btw what's the source of the file before it came to the Tableau server.
I'm sorry I'm not sure what that means.
The source of the file is a .txt we upload
I mean create a new field on both the sources and then use that field when you do data blending.
