    Strings to Arrays to Variables

    Gill Potter

I've got a data set with a field that breaks down the percent of membership for a customer by state.  The data field is an array that was converted to a string.  For example, customer A has membership in 3 states (AL, AK and MA) , evenly split.  The field would contain a string of "AL:33 AK:33 MA:33".  What I need in the end is 52 columns, one of reach state and the resulting % of membership in that state for each customer.

It feels like there is probably a way to split the string up, convert back into an array, then pivot into columns.  However, I am not sure how to accomplish in Tableau.  Any help would be appreciated.
