My boss has asked me to analyze the demographical changes across time at my company. I have three variables (among others) that I'm trying to create a visualization for: Hire Date, End Date, ethnicity
What I'd like to do is show how the percentage of ethinicities have changed over time (say, in 1999 our company had 14% Asian-Americans, and today it's gone up to 20%). I can create a calculated field for percentages.
I started creating dummy variables to satisfy ranges (i.e. 2000 = IF Hire Date <2000 AND End Date > 2000 THEN 1 ELSE 0 END)... but I'm not going to repeat that sixteen times. I came across this: Show Records That Fall Within a Period of Time | Tableau Software
Is there an easier way to do this?
BTW I cannot upload/download workbooks due to network restrictions.
Hi Nathan! Do you have the flexibility to reshape your data? If you can create a data set that has either one record per employee per year or that has a record for when the employee was hired and one for when he left, then this will be a lot easier to do.
