I think you can create a stacked bar chart which will take little space.

Admittedly, It's a bit of a hack.
Tableau 10 adds some new features around the sizing of bars. It won't give you the ability to easily space/cluster them, but does provide a better presentation.
If I've understood your question, you're not looking for something overly complicated, so apologies if I've over-simplified. If you literally just want less gap between the bars, then just click on the size button in the Marks card and drag the slider to the width you want.
To group the bars by year instead of person, just click on the blue YEAR pill in your columns list and drag it to the left of the Account Manager pill. That will group your measures by Year, then Account Manager, instead of Account Manager then Year.
