First, we need to clarify...
You have desktop 9.3, and created a workbook.
You want to publish - now here is where I am confused.
In the title its says Server, but the description says Online?! They are 2 different products
Server is client side hosted
Online is Tableau hosted
Which do you have?
I got Tableau desktop 9.0.1 and trying to publish my workbook to "Tableau Online" Trail version.
I'm getting a window on top of Tableau desktop showing the contents of the Tableau online my account.
but I'm not getting the option "open in browser " and I'm not able to publish...
I attach a screen shot of that scenario ( from here I don't get any option to publish my workbook)
thanks in advance,
Apologies this got buried...
Lénaïc Riédinger Should Desktop 9..0.1 be able to publish to Tableau online?
@clay, my suspicion is a version misalignment
I think Tableau Online is v9.3.5 and while you have an older version of desktop that may cause issues (Alternate Downloads Site | Tableau Software )
Getting confirmation... from Lenny

Clay, could you please check if the datasources in your workbook are clean? Do you have one of them with a red !?
This can occur when one or several datasources are broken. Try closing the broken datasources if you have any.
Also, I invite you to follow these steps, because the Internet Explorer settings impact Windows operating system settings. Simple check up.
- Verify that your username and password are correct.
- Open Internet Explorer (IE).
- Select Settings > Internet Options.
- Click the Security tab.
- Set the Security level for this zone to Medium-high or Medium.
- Click OK.
For the versions, Tableau Server/Online needs to be more current than Desktop version for the compatibility. Please check the following link to ensure that your versions are compatible: Desktop and Server Compatibility | Tableau Software
Thanks Lenny, much appreciated!
