The error message: "An unexpected error occurred. The "Edit Set" dialog cannot be displayed" could be the result of the user not having permissions for the project on Tableau Server that they are signed into. To alleviate this error and edit the user filter, please check with your Tableau Server Administrator to make sure you have the appropriate permissions on the necessary projects.
Thanks for your response Paul!
I see that dialog while trying to edit a set without properly connecting to the data source.
I have downloaded the workbook and I believe I was given read-only access to the data on Essbase side and I don't see that error dialog anymore.
However, after connecting to the data source, I see the following errors
Errors for '% Market':
Field '[essbase.1..........].[Comp].[Gen]' which is included for filtering does not
Field '[essbase.1..........].[Period].[Gen]' which is included for filtering does not
Field '[essbase.1..........].[Period].[Gen].[Gen3,Period]' is undefined, ignoring sort
Field '[essbase.1..........].[Scenario].[Gen]' which is included for filtering does
Once I click OK to the above error dialog, I can see that I have access to a database, RPT2 ,
However , all my sheets are cleared and after signing in to the server and trying to edit few of the existing sets crashes Tableau, particularly user filter sets
My assumption is that I wasn't given the access to the right database that's being used in creating the report. But, what could be the reason for Tableau to crash, any ideas please?
What are the necessary permissions that a user has to have that would allow them to edit sets?
Please try to publish a test version of the workbook to a test server. Manually edit the publish dialog to specify the user who sees the error as an editor of the workbook and see if the error persists.
